Hmmm, see I’m the exact opposite on this contest since it’s titled ‘Waterscapes’ and not ‘Landscapes with a Water Feature’.

*shrugs*
The title is evocative, however the theme description does say ‘Landscapes with a Water Feature’ – and I always read the description and check the discussion thread, because I’ve been caught off guard a few times by some detail about the theme that I didn’t know about and now all three of my planned entries are no good and I have to search the archives and upload to the image host … not my idea of fun.

I hesitated on submitting my waterfall one because I thought it might have too much land. 😆

Well I don’t disagree with you there – if the image doesn’t feature water prominently, I probably won’t vote for that either. I think you have no worries with your waterfall shot; I like the perspective of it.

Incedentally, am I the only one who keeps expecting that little gray guy Thor and SG-1 to materialize in the middle of those water columns in harpo‘s entry at 2010-09-01 08:11:39 PM?

Zero Exponent‘s waterfall is amazing, but I so would have saved that for upcoming V,M, & Waterfalls (if it were mine–but I voted for it just the same–lovely shot. There’s tons of lovely shots this time.)

Speaking of voting, I’m in agreement that to fit the theme, there must be some land in the shot, and hopefully that land has something interesting to qualify it as landscape.

If anyone happens to look at my B-sides and has any thoughts along the lines of “you know, I’d probably have gone with this one over that one,” I’d welcome the input. Still working on trying to recognize what distinguishes a photo that I happen to like from one with perhaps more universal appeal…

Either one of the Blue Angels flying in formation would have garnered my vote. Unlike me, you had a great array of shots to choose from for this theme. All your A’s and B’s are entryworthy IMO.

Mopsy, I posted a question in the main thread, but I guess you missed it. Did your husband do any work on the Adam’s Family table? That one was my all-time favorite. I used to be able to play all day on a single credit, then give some kid all the free games I’d racked up.

… I set up the tripod on the passenger seat with a remote cord and shot 1500 pics in the 25 mile ride home.

60pic/mile 😯 In metric that’s 37.3pic/Km! Man, I need a new camera, the best I can get is about 14 pic/Km (that’s in the city, it’s even lower on the HWY).

I’m hoping since planes and trains are cool, that photos from a ship – that I was definitely not helming – will also be copacetic.

Thank you all for taking the time to respond. I value your opinions and suggestions, no matter how many self-deprecating comments you may make. I do not have any “photography friends” in real life that I can talk to, so it’s great to have access to your expert advice. I try not to worry about vote totals, but this week just seemed so much lower than expected that I went “whoa, I must be doing something wrong that I’m not seeing.”
I will keep at it, and always try to keep improving.

I dunno what the fark happened to my votes this week, somehow I lost votes during the contest!? I voted yesterday and checked my totals, and now I have less votes in the FSM 😕
Is there a negative vote feature I’m unaware of? Could I actually get a golf-like score for my entries?

What I like: the various shades of blue, the texture of the drops. The original (which I will try to post tomorrow – it’s not on my flickr, and I have to go to work soon) is much more gray. I played with the contrast, gamma and hue settings until I got this version which felt right. I figured there might be competing shots similar to mine, so I wanted it to stand out from the others. It stood out all right, because they all got votes 😳
