I had no idea you could vote for your own shots. Off to bump up my stats, brb.

I know I’m late to the scanner debate, but I think this photo/scan shows some artistic merit. IMHO that is what will separate it from scanning a piece of paper. This took time and effort to put together.

Each photo/scan should be judged on it’s artistic merits, as opposed to a blanket policy. I’m also certain that the voters will ultimately determine if we see more of this. I’m all for inclusiveness and expanding the pool of Farktographers.

This is just my 2 cents, I also like Oi‘s entries, as it was lateral thinking.

am I the only one not getting oi_piss_me_off ‘s shots?

He shot each of the three branches of the United States government. However, his three subjects are in separate photos, not combined. Looking at the theme wording, it just says shoot three subjects, not that each photo has to have three subjects, partly a consequence of having to pare down the wording to fit the field.

I think it’s very clever. It took me a bit to get it too.

I have no intention of using the photo, I just thought it was funny and kind of appropriate. The walk produced a bunch of usable photos and a lot of curious looks.

I tend to agree with Kestrana it’s more about shooting something that fits the theme rather than fitting the theme to the photograph. The purpose of asking about my photo was to determine the upper end of the range of background colour. I have no issues with it being rejected, but now that I know that it is too much, I have a benchmark to work from.

Just to toss out ideas, an aquaintance has a photo of a parking garage from above that fits the theme. The black of the asphalt and the salt staing are offset by the yellow lines.

Or think of concrete, it’s usually grey and, more often than not, tagged with colourful graffiti.

but, that’s just my 2 cents.

I’m trying to gauge the limitations on the background colour.

Would something like this be acceptable?

It doesn’t strike me as terribly monochrome/black and white/grayscale either.

    I kinda thought so.

Very nice. Especially like the first one.

I’m with zincprincess on the ice canoes. Ice, water, and sub-zero temps don’t sound like a fun combo to me, but y’all can have at it.

The ice canoe races are a traditional thing, from when they had to cross the river that way to get supplies. Like everything else two teams wanted to see who’s faster…the races developed out of that. The race usually involves 100+ boats. Oh and alcohol, lots of alcohol.

    As promised the photos.

Curious, it may just be dirt on the outer lens, everything is incredibly clean. When I looked though the viewfinder, I noticed a fuzzy line across the viewing area (for lack of a better term).

The package has three lenses and the extender, and the case. I didn’t examine things too closely as it was Christmas. Right now it’s sitting at my dad’s house until I figure out what to do with it. It belongs to an uncle who was particular about keeping things clean and in working order.

I was finally able to get out and take some pictures with this this camera. It does take some getting used to for sure. While out two people stopped to talk to me about the camera, that was kind of fun. Once I’ve finished the roll of film I’ll post the results here.

Not a B-side, but this was our tree last year. we had to rearrange our living room furniture to accommodate it.

    congratulations Harpo.

On a side note: BEST FINISH EVER!
as you can tell I’m kind of proud of that. When I started doing this about a year ago, my goal was to participate every week, then I aimed for 1 photo in the top 25%, then top 20, then top 5. Next step is a win. I suspect it’s still a ways off yet, but I’ll keep on tryin’.

Maybe I’ll get my photo-mojo back in the new year. When I do, I’ll come back to this thread for cool ideas. Lots of good stuff this week.

I like your pictures, both in the Farktography contests and on flickr.

I’ve also been having photo-mojo issues, I just haven’t been in the mood to shoot actually. The entries this week (and next week) were a result of getting out of the house before I went nuts.

One of the things I found out this week is sometimes it’s just a matter of being in the right place at the right time. My train pictures were a result of taking a different path back to my in-law’s house from a photo-safari for next weeks theme.

I have to admit I was a little giddy this morning when I checked Fark. I did not expect to be that high in the rankings. I’m glad the voters like trains this week.
