ParticipantThose aren’t purple flowers, they’re Salvation Jane (only freaks call it Patterson’s curse, honestly!). 😉
I am completely and totally honoured to be able to post amongst the amazing photographs that are on show in that there thread. I had a quick look in on it this morning before I headed to work and have spent the entire day wanting to get home to have another look at the awesomeness that is there.
Great job, everyone. Just amazing.

ParticipantThe format that I will be adhering to follows. If anyone is struggling how to pull this contest off, I think it should work very well:
1. Take Original Photo
2. Create Two “Wallpapers” – one 4:3, one 16:10. if you have enough megapixels/good quality prints to scan, I recommend making the 4:3 at 1600×1200, and the 16:10 at 1920×1200.
3. Turn the “widescreen wallpaper” into a farktography preview photo. 1920×1200 –> 640×400
4. Host the “farktogrpahy” verison on imageshack (www.imageshack.us)
5. Host the “wallpaper versions” on site of your choice (I am happy to host for anyone who needs it, just e-mail me at least a day in advance)
6. Create the fark post with the following format:[img src=”location of photo”]Title of Photo – Location
4:3 version – 16:9 version
The result should look quite aesthetic!
I’ll post an example in a second.
I have shamelessly stolen this format. So thank you very much for doing it! 🙂

ParticipantHow about we ignore the abnormal sizes and just ask people to message us if they want an obscure size?
Or
People may not want to have their image used, so maybe those who do link to available sizes and those that don’t just leave off the linkage? That way it’s a personal choice as to which we do, how many sizes we make, that kinda thing.

ParticipantI haven’t been allowed out to take photos. 🙁
Although the doctors note is technically only for work…

ParticipantI got free software with the camera that will batch convert raw to jpg, it’s pretty basic software though.
I’m running Capture One (got a free coupon for it with my memory card, wooo!) and that also has a batch “process” function which will convert to jpg amongst other things. So far it seems like a pretty good system.
If you’re going to pay out for something, trial run on everything first, see which software you like and which workflow suits your style.

ParticipantI don’t thinke there’s anything in my town that isn’t in a book!
I have a couple of ideas though.
..If I can stay awake late enough to post.
I’m going for the Oldest Recorded Town in England. Anything of interest here has been published by the damned Romans. 😉
But those danged locals, they just walk straight past. I doubt the locals in York stop by York Minster in their lunch breaks. You live in the perfect place for this one.
As for the staying awake. I tend to snooze early, wake up, post, go back to sleep. I still get the required number of hours, I just have a break in between. Putting the laptop on snooze next to the bed with everything pre-posted in the Fark Scratchpad kinda helps too.

ParticipantI’ve had some pretty neat pictures turn up, even with the camera I’ve got (Vivitar ViviCam3746), which wasn’t too bad for a first digital the years ago I bought it, but now… eh. Even so, it will manage some pretty decent photos.
That’s a pretty damn fine magnolia you have there. Fantastic shot. Point and shoots don’t take away from the skill of the photographer, as that picture clearly shows. Can’t wait to see what you come up with when you get your dSLR! 🙂

ParticipantI think the question is more how many subjects from the store per picture / theme.
So for example. Can I go in and buy three things, take a picture of each with whatever accessories I wish and submit those, or do I have to buy one thing, accessorize as required and then photograph it three times (with same or different accessories, depending on my artistic flare of the day).

Participant(In relation to the wide angles, Elsinore has the Tokina and I have the Sigma, I’m sure Elsinore won’t mind if you hit her up for some example shots, and I’m more than happy to provide some if you want to see them in action.)

ParticipantI bookmarked it from day one! 😀

ParticipantNice! I’ll be in the middle of my trip to Scotland — hopefully I can stop off at an internet cafe and post a few pics from the trip!
Yes, I admit that I’m mostly posting this because I’M GOING TO SCOTLAND IN A WEEK!! WOO HOO!! 😀
Does that mean I’m going to have competition on my picture of the Forth Rail Bridge? 😀

ParticipantDid….did you just get bonked by staplermofo?! That’s…. I’m……. soooo…….uhhh…… hm….
Jealous?
(bonking =/= boinking, birthday punches are a part of our rich cultural heritage and it behooves us to carry on these traditions so that our way of life isn’t lost in the shuffle of this modern world)
You know, in some cultures bonking = boinking. 😉
And a very happy (belated) birthday to Elsinore!

ParticipantI wish I’d got some pictures of a HANS device at the last GP I went to now..
😀

ParticipantI have a silly question.
What about clocks? Are hands from clocks allowed? (it doesn’t say they aren’t…)
I’m just struggling to find ways to photograph my own hands enough for this one.

ParticipantWelcome Flavivirus!
I have the Sigma 10-20mm, as Elsinore said. It’s a really spiffy lens.
There are a couple of examples http://www.farktography.net/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=869&start=15 in that thread. I’ve been a bit slack of late, but next weekend I’m off to Brussels, so I expect I will have plenty of examples from it after that, if you want to see some. 🙂
