The middle picture in the 3 in the article is easy to see the compression. (I can’t figure out how to re-phrase that so it’s proper English.) It looks like “Smart Blur” has been applied. Except for that, the pictures are fine for what they are. The lighting and image quality is good, but we’re seeing images of a certain size designed to be shown on a computer screen.

All of our discussions and complaints here about iPhone images and other cell phone/low quality camera images all are around images that almost seem designed for computer and digital display. We’re talking resolutions of 72dpi. How do these cameras’ stand up when images are printed? That’s likely where the rubber’s gonna hit the road, especially at a larger print size.

It occurs to me that a “Difficulty: No Post-Processing besides resize and crop” may be in order.

I noticed while doing a photoshop for Misfit Squirrels that the Filter Forge free pack of filters includes a Holga setting. Obviously, I won’t be using that, but it might be important to warn others.

Fair enough. It seems other than you price comment the $50 wallyworld camera would have fit the bill.

He also said “less than 1mp”. Does the Wally World one qualify? I believe a “VGA” qualifies (640x480px). I’ve got an old cell phone that would qualify as well… maybe that’s what I’ll use… the microSD card is easier to use than the Spiderman software.

The camera I’m planning on using is THIS VGA camera (although my faceplates are different).
Trust me when I say this thing takes crappy pix:

(I do not know why this pic isn’t showing up except that maybe my browser’s embarrassed to post it)

Neat! We’ve got a couple of those (although they’re obviously different vintage as the decoration around the lens is a little different). After looking at them, they’re definitely 1As.

    Nice find!

For what it cost them to develop it, and if they’re touting the camera element of the phone, why not also 1-up the competition by installing a bigger lens? My old Olympus 3.3mp camera takes better pix than my 5mp phone because the phone has a lens measured in millimeters, while the Olympus lens is at least 1 inch diameter.
A lens 1/4″ or more in diameter would be a HUGE improvement over the pinhole most phones have.

The 41mp to 8mp conversion does seem like it would create acceptable images for the majority of Americans (although that’s not really a huge endorsement). They’d probably be good enough for Fark’s 640px limit.

That makes 3 of us. Being forced to throw out the gondola parking lot and look again allowed me to find an image I love so bad it’s now my wall paper.

This theme is going to really have some interesting stuff, methinks…

    Thanx Kestrana and mopsy!

After really struggling with this, the archive dive came up (relatively) aces.

Congrats to kestrana on the individual win and to Mopsy and orionid on the combined win. The Weekly Reports post has been updated with the latest stats.

    So close…

    Congrats guys!

Thought I had it this week (finally)… it’s GOING to happen for me one of these days… it’s GOT to…

One shot I tried (and never got good enough for use) was a reflection of the parking lot in the side of a vehicle. Just a thought for those of you with no inspiration.

Motorcycles and scooters are OK, yes?

I kept the bike pic and tossed the gondola pic.

    Looking forward to this one…

Did this happen to anyone else? Maybe the person did not realize what they were doing. I think this is weird.

This has been a running discussion since it was discovered a couple of weeks ago. Apparently I got unvoted from 3rd to 5th one week, and others have suffered in previous weeks as well. For the moment, it looks like you’re the only one to have this happen this week.

It’s an obvious flaw in the current voting system, and one that needs to be fixed (by returning to the old system).

I think the reason it’s possible is that the programmers wanted people to be able to peruse the thread at their leisure voting and unvoting… I don’t think they realized people would go back hours/days later and unvote. There needs to be some sort of control, or it needs to be replaced.

That said – it’s not like there’s fabulous prizes… but I’m still crossing my fingers over this week’s voting. Looks good so far (finally).

I like the first one the best of those three. Actually the whole album is good.

    I concur.

I tried writing an essay. It was dull, insipid and uninspired.
    So I wrote a poem.

Photography traps the beauty of the mundane.

    Farktography displays the trophy.

    Farktography sets those moments free.

    Photography is zen.

    Farktography is the koan.

    Photography distances me from events.

Farktography brings me closer to people.

    Photography is my first love.

Farktography is where I give my love a Valentine.

Feel free to use it or don’t.
If you do decide to use it, please have it center aligned (I tried using both BBCode & HTML and neither allowed me to display the text centered the way I wrote it.)
I am open to constructive criticism/advice.

I had some ideas and gave them a try…I’m not sure they all fit the topic. Opinions?

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/mbee/6919379977/in/photostream/ Fear

http://www.flickr.com/photos/mbee/6773262862/in/photostream/ Fear of what’s to come

I think they all fit, but the middle one may be too dark to be effective.
