ParticipantHey, it’s a girl! Conga-rats on becoming a dad, John!

ParticipantThe falls in autumn and the stone bridge in winter are my faves, nice job!

Participant… As soon as someone else is holding the camera, and squeezing the trigger, they’re having a direct effect on the framing, composition, and timing of the shot.
Elsinore,I applaud your integrity. You probably could have just kept silent, and nobody would have noticed. If you want to enter it, I certainly won’t get all butthurt about it, but I agree with olavf‘s statement above.

ParticipantThanks, couldn’t have done it with orionid‘s awesome idea and ready access to an Xray machine! 🙂
Yes, those machines can really come in handy sometimes. Congrats on the win, I’ve gotta hand it to you–that was my fave photo this week, hands down! It was a gripping contest, a handful of photos were within arm’s reach of winning, but you won it handily.

ParticipantSo, Orionid came up with an awesome idea for this week involving xrays. U-Man couldn’t because of some crazy rules about not using valuable hospital equipment for things like Fark thread (geesh!). I, on the other hand am the radiology tech at my animal hospital, so my rules are rather more…flexible. (Hey, I get exposed to xrays dozens of times a week, what is one more time, right? And, I can read at night without a flashlight!) So my question is: is a digital xray a photograph? Can it be used in the theme? The technology is almost identical to a digital camera (to be honest if this were film I wouldn’t even ask, but I would also not do it because the film ain’t cheap, digital is 1 and 0’s) except that the light I am painting with xray radiation.
Thoughts?
Heh, I’m studying medical radiological technology, so I’m getting a kick …
I’m glad these are allowed, maybe someday I can do some non-medical imaging. I’ve seen x-ray photos of flowers and such; I’ve been wondering if perhaps U-man was going to post some artistic X-ray photos, one day. I would be surprised if he hadn’t tried it at least once! Calibrating the ol Shimadzu, maybe?Curious, it’s like any other camera–you must activate the shutter to be the photographer, but if you want to share here, that would be cool.

ParticipantCongrats Ranger Joe! Like I was saying, anyone with a W from Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, Arizona … is an automatic win 😉
And of course, automatic second place for a plane spewing smoke–nice job on that, CauseISaidSo, the most popular letter is not an easy one to find and photograph. Like the banner as well.
And the idea to have another contest where we make whole words, +1.5!I had my best finish yet this week, with my worst photo still in the top twenty–wow! I try not to worry too much about my stats and placement, but it does feel good that voters like what I’m posting. Thanks voters! Thanks also to U-man and Soosh, because if they had entered their D,G or fireworks V from their b-sides, I would not be placed as high, that’s my gut feeling anyway.

ParticipantWoah, congrats on the promotions, new mods!
NoBigDeal, you have to make your own Ban Hammer, I think. Maybe you can borrow one from SilverStag, looks like he’s got three already …
http://www.flickr.com/photos/pjern/5611959710/in/photostream/… I was wondering what those were for 🙂

ParticipantCool story bro: Yesterday morning I woke up from a dream in which I was noticing that my coffee cup looked like the letter Q. I was in the process of getting my camera to take a photo for this contest when the alarm went off. That is where my inspiration for the shot came from. Unfortunately I see ZE had the same dream with a better photo!
Thanks, I dunno about better, but I was first to post, anyway! Glad you–and evidently a few voters–like it.
QueenBee and Kestrana, I am definitely stealing your ideas for h and R, respectively. I am kicking myself for not seeing those earlier. Good eye, both of you!

ParticipantGood set, my fave is also the roofless shack. Did you use ND filter to get the blue blue sky?

ParticipantWow, productive day, soosh! Lots of keepers in that set, thanks for sharing.

Participantqueenbee, I can’t speak for U-man, but I’m betting that is no problem about the crosed J. After all, there are many different fonts–and there are some that do not have a cross for the capital J. Comic sans is one off the top of my head. You might have a problem with the “row of J’s” part though, as it’s supposed to be one letter only, unless I’m interpreting the description wrong?
LOL orionid, yes I was thinking of folks who had captured the V from someone else’s fireworks display … but if you do end up doing the shot, I would love to see it! I’m so glad that part of the difficulty for this one is not being able to “make” the letters. Forced me to get off my duff and get outside, at least. Don’t think I have any potential winners in my alphabet yet, but this is a challenging theme, so you never know *shrug*
kestrana I forgot about X, doh!

ParticipantCongrats to todd_zilla, for the moon shot winner. Have to also mention soosh’s “fog at sunset”, that definitely belongs in a gallery.

ParticipantI predict a lot of Os…and probably S. I should get to looking. I really ought to get into the habit of looking at these ahead of time and OMG I just had a good thought. Heh I’ll have to get that shot tomorrow. OH! and two other thoughts! This might be easier than I thought
I’m hoping the voters will give some consideration regarding the difficulty level of finding certain letters. I kind of had a self-imposed difficulty on this one–no I,L,O,T, or V–unless I happened on something too cool to pass up, which I haven’t ( if someone can get a fireworks V, I’m thinking automatic win ). I’ve only found one S, but it was not as “isolated” as I wanted. I’m going for photos that could be used as instantly recognizable letters in the thumbnail size–if it couldn’t be used in a ransom note, I don’t want it. Everthing I’ve got so far has been man-made too, so I’m really curious to see the “natural” letters others come up with.
ravnostic I take it you’re planning to shoot every letter for your collection? Me too, then I can throw em up as a set on flickr. I saw some lady has a website where you can order prints of letters–at $5 a letter 😯 –that spell out whatever you want. She cheats tho, she’s got sign letters in there.
