ParticipantWell you can’t complain about the price. Might be worth it to goof about.

ParticipantSome bees. Should they have been ayes? That is the never ending and never answered question.

ParticipantIt seems that everyone answered at once. Elsinore, can you delete the duplicate OBO of the elephant. I think olavf has it handled.

ParticipantI use flickr so I’ll give it a shot for Kestrana.

ParticipantWhen I traveled a good bit for field work, I would get my stuff searched following the swabbing every time. I work on contaminated ammunition plant sites so naturally my dirty boots and clothes were going to set off alarms.
Your job sounds a lot more interesting than mine 😥
It used to be when I was in the field and traveling. Now I’m a desk bound paper pusher otherwise known as “management”.

Ennui – FWIW, if you are flying into the Knoxville airport, their TSA staff is pretty reasonable. I have never had a problem there but I don’t fly with stuff that needs special screening.

ParticipantSome bees. Not sure I’ve chosen correctly but it has been a long day so I didn’t over think it.

ParticipantIt was in the 60’s this weekend. It looks like I will be archive diving for this one.

ParticipantThere may be something to be said for posting only in threads you have something for, rather than setting a goal of neccessarily posting 3 images to keep the stats looking OK…more power to ’em.
I agree. I try to shoot pictures for every contest but sometimes I don’t have three that I think are contest worthy. And when I’m completely out of ideas (Song Remains the Same) or out of my league (Software Hootenanny), I opt to cheer from the sidelines. My goal is to take better pictures and thus more votes.

ParticipantThe baby entries are making my ovaries assplode with the cuteness. I’m not sure assploding ovaries is enough to overcome the allure of the boobies in the voting, though.

ParticipantOh, ennuipoet, I hope you wrong. I fear that you are not.
The photographer responded to the comments on Jezebel.
http://jezebel.com/5748062/did-the-gap-steal-this-image-from-flickrHere is what he said:
Hi. I’m Chris Devers. This is my photo we’re talking about here. I just saw the huge spike in traffic on the photo from Jezebel ? thank you ? and will post a couple of quick points, admitting up front that I’ve only skimmed the comments here:? I’m not a professional photographer.
? I place my photos under the Creative Commons CC BY-NC-ND 2.0 license ( [creativecommons.org] ), meaning that I’m happy to share my photos, on three conditions:
1) I want to be credited where my photos are used.
2) I only allow non-commercial use without specific separate permission.
3) I do not permit derivative or modified versions without permission.? Gap’s use of my photo violates all three of those clauses.
? If they had ASKED for permission, I almost certainly would have said Yes.
? I wrote to the Gap yesterday morning, and got a brief response this evening, saying basically “we’re going to get back to you”. Other than that, I’ve never had any contact with the company about this.
? There are three other versions of the shirt in question. Where did the photos for THOSE come from?
? For that matter, what about the rest of the Gap’s catalog?
? For that matter, what about the catalogs of the rest of the Gap family of companies (Old Navy, Banana Republic, etc)?
I am (clearly) not a lawyer, but I did have the (naive?) assumption that going with a standard Creative Commons license afforded me at least some degree of protection here. I understand that copying happens, and I’m not trying to fight the tide of modernity; I just want to exert what little control I have as an average citizen and, you know, get them to ask permission, first.
? ? ?
Skimming a bit here, that covers some of the main comments I’m seeing.
I probably shouldn’t comment much more than that until I have a clearer sense of how this will unfold.

ParticipantI like the no re-use rule. One, it is a straightforward rule which means it’s easier to police. Two, I like having new content each week and a new challenge for me. I think Elsinore pointed out in another thread that history indicates a photo that didn’t fare well in one contest, it isn’t likely to do better in another. That being said, I could get behind a regular “You gave it your best and your best wasn’t good enough” contest for shots that didn’t make the top 10 (or whatever) but you thought really rocked.

ParticipantZero – Thanks. I was debating what to enter for my snow entry. I wish I could have captured her expression from the other side. She was dismayed and insisted that Daddy rebuild it.

ParticipantLeft eye without even registering that’s what I’m doing. After reading this thread, I tried to use my right eye and I simply cannot do it.
