People still use answering machines and VCRs but I definitely consider them defunct or archaic. Archaic things still work they just have been replaced or upgraded with something else.

i programmed my VCR for the shows i didn’t want to miss this week about 2 hours ago. but my answering machine is digital so that’s ok isn’t it?

i’m thinking of a windmill and water tank shot i have but i’d bet there are many rural places and ranches where those are still used. in fact all the shots that come to mind are equipment that is still in use if by no one else but fan boys. reel to reel tape recorders are an example.

I had that thought as well. But I think the spirit of the theme would allow you to post a pic of an 1889 mule-driven toenail clipper even if one of Ranger Joe’s neighbors uses one. Just because somebody still uses the thing doesn’t mean it ain’t archaic or defunct.

and what do you do about steampunk? i’ll use the turntable instead of iPod rule.

ok my turn. in ’63 i had a ’60 impala 348 with triple carbs and 3:36s stock wide spread 4 speed. once ran the speedo off the dial street racing. speedo went to 120 or 125.

next fast car was in 1967. a ’66 vette with the 327 hyd lifeter cam. don’t remember the rear end but i got the car floating around 135 going to vegas. that 1″ of foot print at night is just flat out stupid.

in time you will go from dazed to sleep deprived. congrats

I really do need an aluminum cnc mill. Maybe it’s time to stop drooling and roll some pennies.

perhaps you should have thought of that before last saturday. or is that huge pile pennies not community property now?

after googling: i thought i knew what you were talking about and i wasn’t off much. make that a huge mountain of pennies 🙂

closest i ever came to machine tools was my last job where i had the used of an old armature turner. and a horizontal band saw which was nice.

I’m shocked.. not one mention of the awesome street cred one receives when sporting “The Official Digital Camera of the Internet”.

and if you don’t believe them just read about it here. in this press release.

“Note to Editors: News release available for download at: http://www.pentaxusa.com/news/news_current.cfm”

once in a while some company does something really douchey. for pentax that was in 2004.

BTW that is now a dead link. wonder why.

i was a minolta fan boy for years and still have 3 XD-11 bodies and a couple of their lenses. going digital bought fuji for P&S and when getting a DSLR went back to minolta with a 7i. and then got a konica/minoltla 7D which i liked. but when konica/minolta sold out to sony … how about no. so when i wanted to go more MP it was nikon. first with a refurbished L20 P&S then the D3000. so far i am happy but i will admit that the price of nikon’s glass is a bit off putting.

I have access to an extra Bessler 35mm enlarger if you’re interested.

it wouldn’t happen to be a 23C would it? even if not i’m interested.

color at 8×10 i can do with any of my three inkjets. some better than others. and the price of color enlargements at sam’s is ridiculously cheap. got a 16×20 for under $20 bucks. but b/w prints just don’t seem the same although i haven’t tried too many.

I’m easy. I mean open. It has moss in the name, go for it.

/Randy Moss might be too far, but if someone post an unvotenated photo of him, I’ll definitely get a chuckle.

i was in an area this morning with spanish moss and a camera but ended up using other shots instead. or will use since the contest hasn’t started yet 🙂 while the shots i’m entering probably won’t do well in the voting they are a better spread to cover the theme. plus the spanish moss ones were meh.

Some day in a bigger (better) house, the albums and scrapbooks will be on proper shelves for anyone and everyone to look at.

Weird. I’ve never looked at it that way. I’ve always been of the school where thought was: Someday, in a bigger (better) house, I’ll have a dedicated darkroom in the basement so I can stop weatherstripping the bathroom everywhere I move.

there are no basements here but THIS. i have an unused interior bathroom but no darkroom equipment 🙁

my grandmother was a famous radio writer. a guy called a couple of years back wanting info for a book he was writing that would include her part in a particular show. now i was impressed by that but not overly so since i grew up knowing she was once famous. my friend however got all excited and started digging in ancestry.com and nagging me to scan all the old photos my sister and i got when mother died. the net result is i know far more about my family than ever and have a pretty complete digital album. she also organized and put a large percent of my 4×6 photos into this photo album tower.

I’ve actually been considering scanning negatives from my early days. There’s a lot photos of the cat’s ass, and random shit that I have no idea why I took photos of.

i have all my negs from the ’70s sleeved with contact sheets but even with a fancy scanner digitizing them is turning out to be a pain. i also tried sleeving the stuff from later to make digital contact sheets but that had limited success.

Cool! I’ve tried to get my kids interested in it but so far haven’t had much luck. My oldest takes some photos now and then but I wouldn’t say he’s necessarily interested in photography.

i bought my step daughter a used film camera (digital wasn’t around much in ’96) and after two photo excursions it sat in her closet.

on the plus side a friend has become interested in better photography and started entering these contests. in fact her vote totals were above mine in “travel photography”.

Our wedding is next May but we were civilly married on Saturday because orionid is in the Navy and for many reasons it was beneficial not to wait that long. Due to my work and the kind of wedding we want to have it wasn’t possible to move up our wedding date.

well congratulations and good luck to you both. of course the downside is you now will have two anniversaries. or maybe that’s a plus. YMMV 🙂

once you point it out and then look where the stem meets the leaf you see upside down. but i was thrown off by (among other things) the curvature.
