ParticipantBut this cock-biting fruit of a shit-fucking whore’s Crohn’s-ravaged prolapsed anus’s 95% viewfinder coverage has dusted my doilies this contest.
That sentence is a thing of beauty! 😆
And then I’ll just leave this here….”The D7000 has an excellent viewfinder for its class – offering 100% coverage”.
(so now I can see all the crap in my shot instead of just some…)

ParticipantI think for being casual folks, since we’ve allowed some other stuff from regulars to stand, we should allow the other stuff as well. Overall, I think the thread stayed well on-theme.
Guess it’s kind of an interesting study in how sometimes people cue mostly off the theme name and have a different take-away from it than from the theme description.
Yeah, now I wish I’d stuck with ‘desolate’ rather than ‘remote’, need to listen to my first instincts…

ParticipantOk, thanks Kestrana & Yugoboy. I was getting hung up on the Desolation part of it.
Funny how our minds pick up one word to focus on. Like in the Barren Macro theme; my mind equated ‘barren’ to ‘landscape’, so that’s the kind of pictures I made – macros of things that had a barren landscape look to them and then wondered why everyone else did close-ups of ‘regular’ things. 😆

ParticipantAn urban landscape can definitely fit this theme, but I did intend it to be landscapes, not close ups or portraits. If I had a chance to go to Detroit for this theme, I would.
Kestrana, I’m still a bit confused as to whether we’re looking more for ‘desolate, dead, nothing to be seen here’ or ‘remote, no one around, living vegetation, can be pretty’ types of things.
Desolate to me is ‘ugly’, while a winter scene or the desert can be beautiful.

ParticipantYikes…hopefully it’s not the oil/lubricant spot problem that some have reported. Luckily I haven’t had any issues with my D7000. One person said if they put it in Q mode, it wouldn’t throw the oil, so maybe try that & see if it still spots. That may help determine if it’s dust or lubricant.
Here’s a Flickr thread about it:

ParticipantOk, thanks NBD & Elsinore, although that doesn’t help me eliminate any! 😆

ParticipantJust my luck, a few months ago I cleaned out my contest folders, leaving only the ones I actually entered. Serves me right for trying to organize something.
I have a Triptych that has one different panel out of the three than the one that was entered. Would that qualify?
Obviously the “qualify” question is up to mopsy and NoBigDeal and possibly Elsinore, but one of my entries this week was going to be a panel from a tiptych that I did not use, but I changed my mind in favor of another b-side from another contest. So now I have a b-side from a b-side contest. When does that contest come around? Every hundred years?
😆 This one is so hard to choose images for!
I haven’t decided on the Triptych one anyway, so it’s no biggie if it’s not acceptable.

ParticipantKashari; I have a sunset album cover I’d like to find a matching sunset for, and I have a Jerry Falwell (of all people!) album cover with a graveyard scene that I’m planning on using. The Phyllis Dillar album only comes out if I decide to do drag.
//I don’t do drag.
Ok, thanks Rav!

ParticipantI was actually ahead of the game this week, three in the can on Monday. Now I just need to start shooting for next week… Wait, what?
And here I’m still procrastinating on last week’s project, maybe I’ll get to the Christmas one after the new year. 😆

ParticipantSo now that I looked at the Flickr stream which was linked in the Theme thread: http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=sleeveface#page=1, all I can envision is the body part thing. Can someone help me get out of that corner & give some examples as to how else you could create an ‘illusion’? Does this mean you can make a scene type of thing using toys or something like that?
Also, are we only supposed to use one cover per shot?

ParticipantEight Stages of Procrastination:
Inspiration
Planning
Priority Conflict
Compromise
Anger
Denial
Hurrying
AcceptanceMaybe I should have actually woken up before posting. I guess you do have to have a plan that gets put off. 😆
kashari
ParticipantSince when does procrastination involve planning (well, aside from planning to do nothing like I’m doing today…)? 😆

ParticipantOk… gonna double post here – just checking out this bibliostats thing (awesome btw) and this contest marks my third Farktograversary! Go me!
Welcome back & congrats on your mark! My third is the 21st of Jan., hope it’s a good theme! 🙂

ParticipantI don’t think click throughs have anything to do with votes.
My Crown Point #1 photo has 15 views on Flickr and not all of them came from Fark.
Orionid‘s NSFW triptych has like 800 views and was not remotely near the top 10.I myself rarely click through to larger and whether or not I do click through has little bearing on whether or not I vote for the entry.
As for how to get more people to vote, it goes hand in hand with participation. We have a healthy group of regulars that participate but the more people playing the more votes we get. The casual viewer has no incentive to vote despite how easy it is. That is really one of the only perks to having a prize for the winner, would be more of an incentive for casual viewers to participate and vote.
I rarely click thru either & stopped posting bigger images except for a couple rare times.
While I was just a ‘viewer’, I sometimes would quit voting mid-thread or wouldn’t vote at all because there were too many images to go through. Has the thought of cutting it down to two entries ever been discussed?
