Wow. That’s a difficult difficulty. It will be interesting to see what people find.

I think so. Kind of along the lines of “if it looks like glass, it gets the benefit of the doubt, but if it doesn’t look like glass, it’s off-topic”* ?

    Yeah. What she said.

    Side note –

I just had one of the drives in my RAID 0 fail. Got some replacement drives and am going through the process of rebuilding. I lost everything on the C drive.

I’m relating this because, while it is a bit of a pain to rebuild, I had almost everything backed up. I lost my original series of fire pics and one series of the kids playing in the rain. But that is about it. For you newbies out there, and perhaps some others, think about this. Plan on your computer crashing. It is not a question of “if”; it is a question of “when”. Get an external drive and at least copy your documents (music and photos). You can always reload your programs and drivers. I’m a bit compulsive and have an internal storage drive as well as external drives. I had to go through data recovery 7-8 years ago and it was scary. All of those irreplaceable baby/toddler pics were almost GONE.

Ok plexiglass is good, then is acrylic (plastic, but glass-like in appearance) ok?

    I don’t know……on the fence…..

Does anybody have any input? While I am on the fence, I’m leaning toward acrylic and other plastics being OK as long as they look like glass.

If you’re looking for a definite ruling (and if I have the authority) – Glass-like compounds are OK. I don’t want anybody to play sheriff unnecessarily and I don’t want to exclude any cool pics. Folks should just try to stay with the overall direction of the theme.

    Does that help?

I think “things made of fiberglass” is going too far. A picture of a canoe, for instance, in a theme of glass?

    Just my opinion.

Yeah, sorry I missed your question earlier, shep. 1972, but I’d have to agree with soosh on fiberglass, particularly boats. On the other hand, if someone shot some fiberglass insulation, I could see an argument for it–most people know it’s made of strands of glass. But it was U-Man‘s and anku66‘s theme, so if either of them has an opinion on fiberglass, by all means chime in.

Glass, fiberglass, plexiglass – it’s all good as long as it makes me think of glass. However, if you showed me a fiberglass canoe, my brain might have to make to big of a leap to make the connection –> no votes.

My theme (with anku66) and I GOT NUTHIN’. Have an idea or two though……

Many thanks to Uranus for giving me an excuse to play with gas and fire. 😀 I took some shots on Monday night and liked what I saw. But I just had to do it again on Tuesday. Most of the fun was done by pouring gasoline in an old smelting pot, putting it in the kids sandbox and angling it toward the camera. Many beautiful shots.

Oh feck, my picture was going to be of MLB pitchers.

Well, there’s no visible heat generated by a pitch….However, if you’re aiming to shoot the hottest arm in MLB, look no further than Joel “Zoom-Zoom” Zumaya, of my Detroit Tigers….He was clocked, during a MLB game, at 104.8mph….During a spring training game against the Yankees, the speedgun reported one of his pitches at 107mph….The 104.8mph pitch should be the new record, but somehow it’s not “official” yet.
    🙄

That is, like, crazy fast. My arm hurts just reading about it.

I’m on the fence with the “No people” thing. On one hand, we do have enough themes that include people and we have excluded people before. On the other, there have been some good examples presented of how people could be in the frame without being the actual source of hotness.

I’ve just fallen off of the fence on the side of “People cannot be the main subject” or “Any people in the frame cannot be the actual source of heat”.

That’s just my $.02. It’s not all that important to me. (i.e. I don’t have anything yet.)

Folks, never have I been so pleased to have a photo in the top 10. Freaking amazing contest this week. Everyone should be proud.

You deserve it! It is a good pic.

Lord knows how in the hell soosh did so well. It’s like he’s done these kind of pics before or something. 😀

Actually, I think that soosh could pick random photos off of his hard drive and come up with a winner for this contest.

As folks have already said, lots of goodness this week.

Hey! That’s my face you’re talking about!

It isn’t your face that’s creepy, it’s what you’re doing with your eyes Good stuff 😉

Yeah. Those eyes are creepy. I like the cat’s eye effect in the center. Is that the overlapping inner and outer edges of the iris?

I would have labeled my old tractor pic but I was trying to hold on to a 16-month-old who was pissed while I was posting. 😀 I do party tricks too.

The caption would have been, “Moonless night. 30 sec exposure, f/14. Hand held flashlight”.

    😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

Wow. People took that “if cost was not an issue” thing and ran with it. I particularly like ‘mofo’s suggestion of bribing the photons.

But, of course, price is an issue. If it wasn’t, I’d just go buy a bunch of stuff and if I didn’t like it give it to the kids to play with.

I spent too much time today cruising around the net – reading conflicting reviews, checking prices, reading more reviews, adding pages to my favorites etc. I’ve come to one conclusion. I like the Canon 10-22 f/3.5-4.5. Beyond that…I don’t know.

I don’t need any of the stuff I looked at today. I know that. I just want it. Given that recognition, I’ll probably let it bounce around in my head for a month or two before doing anything. Maybe I’ll sit on the fence long enough for the new 5D to come out.

What I got from your comments…lighting and glass. As far as the other ‘suggestions’, I smiled.

I have some pics with shutter speeds longer than 1 sec. However, they were done in a completely dark room and I used a hand held flash, fired manually. So the actual exposure time is only a tiny fraction of a second. Do you guys/gals think that would be OK? Or does it stray too much from the point of the theme?

I’d be cool with a decision either way.

Side note – Is something messed up with the “Recent Contests” at the home page? The results pics don’t load for the contests after “Pictures at an Exhibition”.

I’m probably not alone when I say I was impressed with your photo interpretation of ‘From a distance’. My mind just isn’t that creative but as soon as I saw your photo I knew it had potential to win.

    Good job.

    Aw shucks.

    /kicks ground with toe…feeling good.

Thanks to everyone for the thumbs-up comments. I’m at work so I don’t have the time to do the whole bold name thing. 🙂

I almost didn’t submit that Oreo pic as it doesn’t really match the theme difficulty. I threw it in because I didn’t have anything else and I figured the ‘rules’ would be a bit loose this week.

Farkers like little kids and funny stuff. Good thing I have a supply of kids. However, they’re growing up and I don’t plan on making any more. Might have to borrow some in a few years.

I’m glad someone else isn’t having much luck with this either… I too, can take shots that show distance, but they aren’t that remarkable.

One thing I was pondering is what is your definition of ‘distance’? Distance doesn’t necessarily have to be “far away”. You shot just has to show some sort of distance. 1m can be a distance the same as 1km, no?

attached is a somewhat lame example, but I guess distance is relative…

Yeah. I got a theme-twist one just last night. And it has a toddler in it so it’s bound to get a few votes. 🙂
