Are pike good eating? I have heard mixed reviews.

They are very good. You just have to learn how to cut out that extra row of bones. U-Man has learned how to do that just this summer and will agree it’s worth the effort.

Yeah. What she said. I just cooked some on a cedar plank on the grill using indirect heat. Put that on mashed potatoes with Italian seasoned tomato chucks over that….delicioso!

Oh. And here’s a true fish story. –

This pike was caught by my daughter; ice fishing with a sucker. It’s a nice fish and pike are really tasty so we kept it and cleaned it. If any of you have ever cleaned some fish with the kids watching, you’ll know that they always want you to cut open the stomach and see what is in there. (or maybe I have gross kids and nephews…or maybe I’m gross for teaching them this disgusting trick) Whatever. We cleaned this fish about 30-45 minutes after catching it. On the kitchen counter. After taking the sucker out of the stomach, one of the kids noticed that it’s gills were moving. We put it in a bowl of water and it was, like, totally fine!

Then he ran out of oxygen before morning and wasn’t fine anymore. Bummer. True story though. Mopsy can verify.

Hey orionid, my little one just commented on my avatar. Who is that musician that uses the line-dude in his videos?

Okay, U-Man, The frog-gulp was pretty cool, but I’m going to have to admit that I was expecting to see the stereotypical Field and Stream cover-worthy Bigmouth-breaking-the-surface-to-snag-a-spinner shot.

Heh. If my memory is correct, those F&S covers showing the action shots of fish are paintings. My brain can’t even get around how difficult that would be to capture photographically.

    /cue the I-told-you-so photo link in 3…2…1…

    🙂

I’ve had camera apathy for the past few weeks. I don’t know exactly why. Being on call and working the weekend is part of it. I’m sure things will turn around but I have pulled a couple from the archives again this week. I have some of Chicago’s Original Tin Man SOMEplace but I can’t find them.

I have a few. Nothing I am super excited about.

Found this one during the archive search. I don’t think I’ll use it (but, who knows, the Fark crowd might like it). It was my oldest girl’s 7th birthday. She was blowing out the candles and put up the sneaky cupped-left-hand defense so that her little sister could blow too.

I haven’t been around the farktography for a week or so. And to think I might have missed something…

I am Cornholio! T.P. for my bunghole!

/sorry Mopsy. It’s, um, from a vintage MTV cartoon. Beavis and Butthead.

    Cause’

1 – Thanks for the support
2 – In HS, a teammate’s dad photographed our soccer matches. He developed the pics himself and printed them out as 8 x 10 glossy black and white prints. At the end of season banquet, we got to take our pics home. I still have mine.
3 – I briefly checked out your site using Firefox with Adblock. When I clicked a pic to enlarge, it popped-to-larger half off of the screen. I had to scroll to see all of it. I don’t know if that is normal, but I found it a bit odd.

heh – check out the mid 80’s shorts on number 11. 🙂

Also, while in the ‘scanned photos’ file I ran across this gem of my eldest as a 1.5 year old dracula. (yes, she still has giant dimples)

Thanks for the support. I’ll share it with Mopsy. She is going to have her hands full the next few weeks taking care of Mr. Grumpy.

Elsinore, I didn’t know that. I know it was a while ago, but I’m sorry you went through that. Brain aneurysm?

    Carpe diem, people.

I usually love color contests, I don’t know why this one stumped me so.

I’m uninspired as well. But I’m sure that sometime between now and tomorrow I’ll find something.

btw – Mr. Mopsy (grandpa U-Man) experienced a sudden cold, very painful leg a few days ago. Turns out he has an aneurysm behind his knee (popliteal artery) and it clotted – sending off a shower of clots to the small arteries in his foot. He had surgery and is recovering OK (grumpy, but OK) but any sort of good thoughts headed toward Green Bay would be appreciated.

Were the plastic forks clear, or were they semi-opaque (ie white like the ones in mopsy‘s deliciously dreamy entry )?

Clear. The handles have little trapezoid cut-outs.

btw – cameraflage, I’m, glad you enjoyed the Barbie head one. 🙂 Thanks for the comments.

orionid, I put some distance between forks and screen so that I could keep all of the forks in focus (and not lose the tips) yet blur the colors.

please tell me that you made the forking sculptures. BRILLIANT!
