Even being told it was an illusion I didn’t see how for a long time after looking at the picture, since it’s perfectly logical to assume the overhead of the arch curves back and that’s just not visible in the picture. But good job to everyone on great pictures.

Also the guy who “corrected” us on the plural of “Legos” really honked me off.

I always thought that it was possessive, not plural, i.e. Lego’s. The brick or block being implied. 🙄

Don’t feed them peanut butter. Peanut butter looks like C4 in an xray. Or so I was told. Rubik’s cubes are worse because the springs look like detonators in a medium density plastic when xrayed. Eventually, I got my cube back. The peanut butter was confiscated for national security sake.

But peanut butter is not a liquid!

Regarding my photo for notation, the first book I picked was the dictionary on coffee table, and I managed to select notation, and I figured the phonetic spelling notation would suffice.

My second book is Introduction to Real Analysis by DuPree and Swartz and the selected passage is “Chapter 14 The Gauge Integral Over Unbounded Intervals”. It’s too late for me to go out and take the photo I’m planning on.

So far it looks like a low turnout this week. I do like the windmill, but also the sidewalk and floating horse.

I still remember being a kid and the whole family visiting friends of our parents for dinner and a slide viewing of their most recent vacation photos. Of course, Harry and Lucile both passed away a few years ago. He was a telephone repairman and had a nice pension from Ma Bell. I guess this is just one more disappearance that signals the end of an era.

I was thinking of pulling out my grad school math book (Real Analysis I & II, Math 527/528). This reminds me that I wanted to look to see if there are any continuous function that are unintigrable, which makes me wonder what the integral of the Blancmange function is.

I’m also thinking about William Gibson and Neuromancer which starts “The sky above the port was the color of a television tuned to a dead channel.” Of course, all the channels are dead now on my analogue receiver CRT set, except some of the Mexican channels (broadcast from Mexico, not just Spanish language). The only hard part would be randomly opening it to the first page of text. My favorite bits are other parts, so they get reread more.

Can we do this more than three times and pick the best result? Or is that cheating by using multiple books and taking multiple photos then deciding?

Getty would be a fool to not take these images. They will sell, as they already have to the article writer. It’s the Yankees for goodness sake. I don’t even follow baseball since Kaufman sold the Royals, but I still recognize the guys in those portraits.

And Nokia will never sell this phone in America. I don’t know of any US provider that carries any Nokias. Oh, wait, T-Mobile just added one model, but you have to get the top tier service. That’s what I miss about Europe. I could buy a Nokia for 25 euros cash-and-carry. Unfortunately, it wasn’t quad-band.

/Speaking of solder, hey, Olavf, does going out of my way to NOT buy RoHS compliant devices make me a bad person? Or a tinfoil hatter? Or just an old, stodgy, stick in the mud who likes his lead-based solder?

I’ll say it: Tin-lead just works much better than the tin-antimony. I was soldiering some steel this past week, and I dislike the plumbing grade stuff.

It’s funny, some of us good ape poo for an old film camera chock full of obsolete tech. Yet when it comes to an old DSLR…they crowd goes silent 🙂 That says something about technology and camera nerds.

Just before Christmas, I was visiting my mom and stopped in at the camera repair shop near her. Talking with the repairman was nice. He seemed to have lots of customers stop in while I was there looking around and chatting.

He was definately an old fashioned (and old) guy. He complained about the lack of depth of field of digital prints compared to film (but I couldn’t see what he was talking about), but more belivably he said the quality and durability of digitals just doesn’t match the film bodies. He could take apart, clean, and reassemble a film body and all the parts and pieces fit exactly where they’re supposed to, but with the digitals everything is cheap plastic and weak electronic connectors.

I haven’t tried disassembling anything yet, so I can’t say for myself.

Rav, I think the idea behind this was cheap/DIY. Somehow a unique mirror lens doesn’t seem to fit the bill for this one. Not that I wouldn’t like to see the results.

Orionid, it’s perfectly fine for you to do what you like for any contest. I was just curious and want to know that I got my $6 worth plus shipping. 😀

After Moiliili, my roommate bought a place in Makiki on Magazine St. on the ocean-side slope of Punchbowl crater, and we moved there. Makiki was nice. The roommate was close to his office and I was close to HCC. Also, the bus routes were better for where we went most often. And if you stood in the doorway to out apartment, and looked between the high-rises downtown, you could see the ocean.

My last vacation (R&R from Afghanistan) I stayed in Wahiawa Heights, and after a week of the mayor’s big yellow limo, I rented a ‘Stang convertible.

So, what about trains…they have cars…

    /runs 😀

    Ooooh!!! Are those train tracks?!?

I suppose I could get some pics of the local depot parking and the rail yard in the frame. Of course, in New Mexico, any barren ground is a parking lot.

I used to live in Moiliili on Kahoaloha St. just behind the co-op and preschool on King St. I know all about the bus route from there down to HCC in Dillingham. The real question is how is parking in your neighborhood? I’ve also got old friends in Kalihi valley and Wahiawa heights, so I need to make some more contacts and make a decision soon. Thanks.

I will have three new cameras for this theme. One, I’ve been working on for a few weeks, it should be ready for testing this weekend. The second is not far behind. All I can say about the third is that it’s cracking me up.

Is one of them the X-mas gift pin-hole? I’m eager to know how that turns out.

For myself, I put down the money for the Holga lens kit for Canon. I might take that to the FarkCon next month. I also went for the 580EX II flash, since I figure most of the Con will be indoors or at night. It’ll be Holga-rific!

I didn’t have anything this morning. The chess players outside the student union building were a happy encounter when I went to check my mail. I can see that I’m not the only one with a gun on the table theme either, but I must say that I didn’t peek at anyone else’s before setting up mine.
