ParticipantI generally think that, and in the Photoshop contests you’d be 100% correct, but I am constantly surprised by the voters’ preference for art over sensationalism in Farktography.
I’ve been wrong before, however.

ParticipantO shit its wednesday, why didnt anyone tell me earlier. Guess its time to search the archives to see if I have any pink in there.
I know exactly how you felt.
From the moment I woke up yesterday until more than an hour I woke up I was convinced it was Tuesday. Even after the school day was over (our schedule is different on Wednesday) my mind and body wanted it to be Tuesday (don’t know why). I even missed 8:00 posting. I wasn’t until well after I’d finished watching a movie and began surfing I saw “Contest linky” and said to myself: “self… get those things posted!”
(Fortunately, like some here, I would assume, I already had the html ready.)

ParticipantEnnuipoet… I’ve REALLY been enjoying your people shots of late. You REALLY get some interesting people in the Big Apple!
Today’s are just as awesome as any you’ve shown us yet.
*rabid hand-bruising applause*

ParticipantOK… I finally got Moderator functions (there was some background software stuff slowing this up). I’m still sussing out the How-Tos of it all. Any theme that is a Sticky that supposedly expired before 2013 will be excised tomorrow. ANY/ALL threads that reach 10 votes between now and then (no matter how old) I will promote to the Hopper. All suggestions not yet Sticky-ed will expire on Groundhog Day (Feb 2).
Other than that, I intend to moderate this forum no different from the way it has been done all along. To wit: 1 month voting time from date of suggestion and 10 votes for Hopper status.
If I find I can swing the time (and I can be fair to all) I’ll try to give a 2-3 day warning before a Sticky expires. That won’t start for a few weeks until I figure out how much effort this is going to take (I don’t expect much, but I want to remain fair to all, especially as I plan to continue suggesting and voting myself. If I can’t be fair in the doing, I’ll be fair by not doing.)

ParticipantFrom what I can tell with Flickr, you can’t go over 200 pix. Once you try, they tell you to delete more. I solved that temporarily by opening a new account. Last weekend I went through the first account and deleted all the re-sized doubles, so now I’ve got some space in my first account as well. I’ll be opening a third account at some point, I’m sure.

ParticipantAs I mentioned in another thread, I was out of town until late yesterday, so as much fun as it sounds and as much as I was looking forward to this one, it’s looking doubtful that I’ll have time to pull something together for it. Looking forward to the hilarity that I’m sure the rest of y’all will bring to it, though. 🙂
Dude… I took way too long to sit down with it… once I did, it just all came together.
Just pull out your animal pix for some comedy, and landscapes/waterscapes for inspirational pieces. All you need is 3.You’ve got ’til midnight before voting starts… plenty o’ time.

ParticipantGood luck! Did you at least make sure they had your blog and flickr addresses?
I agree, that would be a neat-o job!
As a buyer, would you be doing counter, internet, or travel work?

ParticipantWhew… finally got some pix. Now to wait for midnight…
Why wait till midnight? Totalfarkers don’t have to wait. Go ahead and post!
Hey! Thanx!
(I was posting comments to the local alternative paper while waiting, and didn’t see this until just before midnight, but it was before midnight.)
Thanx again!
I’ll definitely be glad to use that gift in the next weeks as school gets back into session.

EDIT…
For What It’s Worth, the midwest blizzard finally moved far enough east to be affecting us. For the moment, we’re OK, but if anybody’s awake at 12:30a.m. eastern and I still haven’t posted my shots, it’s because we suffered a black out. An OBO would be appreciated (again, I plan on doing it myself at 12:00ish, but this is just in case) thanx!

I’ll have a Blue Christmas (With or) Without You

Snowman and Lights
One of my students gave me this last month.
Figured it would be perfect for this contest.
Old Camera and a Sepia Filter
(I asked, and filters are kosher for this contest.)Again… shouldn’t be necessary, but if it is, I really appreciate it!

ParticipantOK… this is why you gotta listen to people when you ask what they want.
So, my parents asked. I said I’d like a gift card to Amazon so I can buy equipment. My parents, being the wonderful people they are went out and got me $100 at a local audio/video/photo place. I also have about $40 at Amazon from different people. With the two together, I could do something… separately, I’m not getting as whole lotta anything (the local place’s prices are not in any way competitive with Amazon).
Not that I’m ungrateful… I’ll figure something out, but it doesn’t look like I’m getting either a 2x teleconverter or a decent flash… more toys, but no tools.
Oh well… when I figure out the toys I’m getting, I’ll let you guys know, and review ’em for ya.

Participantravnostic wrote://wait. what’s this week’s theme?
Something I have yet to shoot for…
I’m truly hoping tomorrow gives me some time in the afternoon…
If not… there’s a bunch coming up I’m looking forward to…
My grievance? Everyone here keeps making me work entirely too hard to come up with good shots…
We gotta have a Crappy Pix contest again soon…
FWIW – Hope y’all’s holiday was good, ya got most of what you asked for, and none of what you didn’t want…
Enjoy!

ParticipantCongrats and happy birthday, swampa! My wife’s is the 18th and her sister’s is the 20th.
And congrats also to Yugoboy for the first in combined.
Wow! Of all the contests to get a combined win in…
I was hoping to also tie for first, but my first win of any kind is still occasion enough to finish off the growler of Double Bock in the fridge.
😀

ParticipantThat’s a lot more interesting a method than what I would have tried…
I’d have soaked tennis balls in something flammable and thrown them into the frame enough times until I got what I wanted…
living in the east, I don’t worry about brush fires like my western friends…

ParticipantReal wish: 600 or 800mm lens for nature/architecture/sports work
Reality sets in: 2x teleconverter and some filters (and SD cards… always more SD cards)
Yugoboy
ParticipantAwesome… thanx!
Filters I got… colored lights… not so much.
