ParticipantZero, the number of hits from Fark.com may include the link checker bots, so it might represent less than 75 actual people. I’m not sure how often the bots run, but I see them a lot in the server logs for my entries. I don’t know how representative my stats are, but since I host different images for small vs large, I can tell exactly how many people choose to view larger and it’s never more than a handful.
Thanks for the ‘splanation, did not know there was such a thing as a “link checker bot”. The weird thing is, that specific entry had way more Fark hits than the other two entries, so I’m thinking a good percentage of those were actual viewers. Maybe they were too busy fapping to remember to vote 🙄
Anyway, sorry if I came off like Crankypants McButthurt there. Normally I don’t worry too much about vote totals, but like I say … I was TRYING to vote whore this week. I feel like the cook who has prepared a meal especially for a fussy group of eaters, and then when I put the food out, suddenly the’re not hungry (cue sad trombone music).
No worries though. Love the quality of the photos this week, I’m off to cast my votes!

ParticipantI will never understand voters. That is all.
Okay, not all: I’m not saying I should do better than someone else or even than I am…. It’s just the ORDER of them! 😉
First of all, I don’t understand the low overall votes for this one. Considering the number of excellent photos, I would expect the total votes to be well above average, instead of exactly average (at time of this post). I have not voted yet, but when I do it will be a large number, probably 50+ because of all the stuff I like. Are there actually people voting for only a handful of the entries? That would be a shame.
Secondly, I’m a bit puzzled by the stats my Flickr is showing for my “Delicious Canada Day Bubble Girl” image from the contest. The stats say 75 “hits” from Fark.com yesterday (and 703 views on the photostream overall–a busy day, for me anyway). I assume this means that 75 people thought the photo was interesting enough to view larger, but as of now it only has five votes … WTF?
Ah well, so much for my plan of vote whoring with scantily clad girls and boys 😕

Participantrav, the wineglass b is cool. Neat idea.
Can anyone help me decide between these?

Bigr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/42385982@N06/6125121770/lightboxI keep going back and forth on which is better for the contest. I dunno, maybe you like one of the other bees more?

Participantgeom_00: Got ’em. Not sure why they’d rotate like that.
I had trouble awhile back with this. I had used the quickie Rotate option on my Flickr photostream, but Fark didn’t get the memo–I went back, edited the rotation in a different way ( Picknik ) and it was fine. I am not enough of a coding-geek to figure out why Fark doesn’t recognize the rotation in rare cases like this, but I would guess that certain programs only do the rotating for the specific site–they don’t change the image itself?

Participantsleeping that “Icy Rail 2” is really really nice.
I’ve got an eight-pack of b-sides here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/42385982@N06/sets/72157626007121333/
I initially thought I had a ton of stuff to choose from, but looking closer, I eliminated a bunch; either not pathways for humans, or they had some person, animal, or vehicle on them. Shazbot!… and if “electrical pathways” had been allowed, I would’ve entered this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/42385982@N06/6097093182/lightbox

ParticipantI should bloody well hope so. There is a group in my city called Copwatch( http://winnipegcopwatch.org/ ) , they take pics/video of police in action and post it on their site. An officer who is performing properly/legally should not be scared to be recorded in public, period.

ParticipantGood god, I really have to try some of this HDR stuff soon–a little scared of “the HDR hole” though 😉
Can I ask what kind of filesize the final stitched image came out at, ennuipoet?

ParticipantCool, keep expanding that comfort zone, CD! Too bad you couldn`t get the lightning shot you wanted, but unless you have a Camera Axe like Caradoc they can be tricky to capture. We had a great lightning show a couple of weeks back, but I was at work and didn`t have a camera on me–I was bummed because you wouldn`t have even needed a long exposure to catch the lightning. Just a constant series of flashes for about 20 minutes. I`ve never seen anything like it, but I hope I do again (this time with camera ready, natch)!

ParticipantSounds like a blast (groan).
I know a guy who got a flesh wound from a ricochet at one of those places in Vegas where you can shoot machine guns. Not much of a CSB, but maybe we can coax a better one out of Orionid … ?Zero_Exponent
ParticipantFinally, all my Rav favorites in one convenient location

This.
Good luck at the Rainbow thingee, not that you`ll need it.
“police agencies from around the nation hawking jobs”? Wha? Is that some Village People joke or sumthin?

ParticipantAlso, Zero Exponent: You were so right. Now where’s my Advil? Hm, maybe I should make it tequila.
Awww, poor Els … you do know that, for the most part (ie 99.99%), we love you and think you do a great job, right?
Also, belated thank you to whoever decided to use my suggestion for the naming of the contest. I’m pretty sure it was Kestrana, but I’m too lazy to check.

Participant… I’ve decided not to use the shot I was asking about, so here’s an early B:

That was the “negative” version. Since I’m not entering it, I won’t bother uploading the positive one.If you have trouble figuring out what that is, here is the answer:

ParticipantMy gut feel is that if film or paper are involved somewhere, then it’s cool, but if it’s digital across the board, then probably too wild of a software change.
Understood. The one I had in mind was pure digital. I may enter the “positive” version, I just thought it looked better the other way.
