I’ll lift my Coke Zero to you. Under normal circumstances it would be a glass of wine but that is frowned upon for pregnant ladies – sigh. . .

It’s cool (not to mention rewarding) that you can see improvement over the weeks. I keep an eye on the FSM myself and am making incremental improvements.

Well then, I’ve learned something new and useful today.

Looking at pictures I took with the rented macro lens (e.g, last week’s butterfly) versus pictures taken with the 35 mm f1.8 lens (e.g, the jewel weed) makes me yearn even more for a macro lens of my own.

I’m glad that I’m not the only one trying to figure out what to post. I think I have one maybe two that will fit, although I’m going to see what gets posted to see if that inspires me about one of my archived shots.

This week’s entries are from our first day of vacation in October – A Taste of Charleston at the Boone Hall Plantation. I had three other days with good shots but elected to go with the plantation day because I thought they worked well together. The voters will let me know if my judgement is off the mark.

I think they can make a reasonable guess from the heart rate. Girls have higher heart rates than boys (I think). I’m not sure how early that trend sets in.

The first time around, I was amazed at how much they can tell from a grainy black and white moving image.

It’s going to take me a week to figure out what to post for this. I have at least 10 different outings to choose from and the weekend is coming so there’s sure to be at least one outing. This is a good problem to have, I suppose. On the other hand, I’m screwed when “The Song Remains the Same” rolls around.

Clouddancer – you would be surprised how often “blah, that’s crap” ends up getting more votes than “I love this picture”. I don’t think I’m alone in this.

I hope you don’t mind me offering unsolicited advice on one of your contest entries, but I think your zip drive photo could’ve been enhanced with a solid background. You’ve got a nice selection of color there and I think it would’ve popped more against a white backdrop.

I don’t mind at all. I took several pics of the zip drive a week or so ago. I wanted to try again because I wasn’t happy with the lighting, flash, etc. But then last night arrived and I didn’t have the time.

I bought one of those white three-sided cardboard things that kids use for science fair exhibits at Target. Probably should have tried using it for the zip pics.

A couple of B-sides. I’m pretty sure that at least one of these should have been A’s. My record of not being able to predict the taste of voters is well established.

From one mom of little ones to another, my advice is simply to slow down. It’s hard to keep an eye on a young one and take good pictures. Find time to play around with the camera when you have the time to really analyze what you are doing and experiment to get a feel for what the camera can do at various settings.

Our neighborhood is full of big old trees that drop tons of leaves in the fall. It was funny how the kids were just drawn to it like a magnet. I haven’t got my kid in leaf pile picture yet but it’s coming. Need to rake the damn leaves first.
