it’s so hard to find abandoned stuff around new orleans. 🙂

what’s really sad is that new orleans is full of katrina damage still and yet the MS gulf coast has done a fantastic job cleaning up. rebuilding is going on and while they are years away from what was lost the lots are empty and kept mowed and the area looks good. at least at first glance until you think of what was there.

Much as I’m looking forward to playing with the new zoomer, I REALLY wanna see what the extender tubes do with some other lenses. I’ve got a slew of potential targets and stages in mind for the macro end of things…

i’ve had ext tubes for roughly 5 years now for two different cameras and love them. these couple to the cameras focus and exposure controls unlike my bellows for the film cameras. i think you will find they were a good purchase.

These are the pictures I took from it. They’re not exactly, uh, spectacular but there you have it: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kestrana/sets/72157625714127657/
I think looking for things with a lot of contrast helps but that’s about all I can offer.

there is a really green cast to some of those. what’s up with that?

i’m late to the party here but don’t understand at all.

you took an image file on some media (CD or thumbdrive) to your local drug store to have a print made. it was a jpg image file right? and it came out weird? i’d say the drugstore messed up if you can still see the image correctly from that media. if you have a printer try printing it (low quality, cheap paper) on that.

    i had a roughly 5MB 3008 x 2000 pixel jpg image made into a 20 x 30 print at sam’s no problem. i don’t see why printing at 4 x 6 would be any different.

we have a farktography discussion thread which is sparsely attended and the boobies posting which is is unread by most and erratic voting. go figure.

all in all i like it that the fark voters look at our contests and usually try to match their vote to the theme. but like the PS contests it isn’t who matches the theme best or who is best technically but creativity counts for a lot of votes. and lord knows we have that. 🙂

So voting for CMOS boot only is right out….. Good thing I *finally* junked the 8086 that I kept around specifically for playing Oregon Trail from the floppy.

my triple boot has a 5.25 floppy. you know just for giggles. and a LS120 and a 100MB zip drive. all the legacy stuff went into that box. like a 14″ flatbed scanner that needs a SCSI adapter card and has win 98 software.

the triple boot is ubuntu 10.10, XP Pro and win 98SE.

and while we are on the subject grub2 sucks. it took me forever to get the triple boot to work since i couldn’t just edit menu.lst.

i ran windows for years but when vista was announced switched to ubuntu. been messing with linux since mandrake 8.1 and redhat ??. tried knoppix starting at version 5.? and unbutu 7 thereabouts. so i built a new box with less than bleeding edge parts but still good for the day including an AMD64 processor and installed 64 bit ubuntu.

and was really underwhelmed. no flash, lots of programs were under powered and while there was some great stuff using either ubuntu or kububtu meant being under the hood a lot. once i found ubuntu never bothered with any other distros although fan boys i knew were pushing them. again all their comments were about how they tweaked this or that. all i wanted was to boot and use the damn machine.

jump forward a few years and last febuary i built another new box and installed win 7 on it. i’d stayed with XP Pro and skipped vista altogether except for when i had to help a friend who has it. overall i like it. it isn’t as stable as XP since it locks up/freezes some but it does all i need, runs all my older programs and i seldom have to mess with it. downloading and installing stuff is easy and there are lots of toys for it.

i do have a triple boot box that has ubuntu 10.10 and i’ll continue to check it out since i am after all Curious.

my sister, who is a luddite, went from an emachine with XP which she had multiple problems with to a new iMac which she loves. part of that is because the folks she hangs out with IRL are all mac fan boys and they have helped her with the transition. also she bought the extended support plan and it seems apples support actually works. or in any case has been able to help her when she had a problem.

    Sweet, CISS!

U-Man: If it’s the dark brooding shots of your girls, I know you’ve used some of those in the past.

my shadows on water shot is similar to one(s) i’ve used before but i have several of them. i tend to shot a lot of exposures with only minor changes using digital.

i came back to the ship one night a bit tipsy and didn’t secure my wallet. it vanished. two weeks later when all the IDs had been replaced it turned up. in a place we all had looked before.

next time i woke up from being tipsy and not securing my wallet i looked at it and thought: “well this time they just took the money”.

moral don’t drink and wallet. or something 🙂

in the early 80s i worked for a major downtown hotel. they were planing on doing some shooting for ads and i volunteered to bring my prosumer level minolta XD-11 in and shot some stuff alongside their hired “pro” photographer.

all went well until time to look at the contact sheets. the “pro’s” biggest complaint about mine? they weren’t 2 1/4 square. facepalm. although i know that bigger negs are better for 4 color separation, etc there wasn’t an iotas difference in our shots otherwise. told my boss he could have my film and contact sheet to do with as he pleased since it was a freebie for/from me anyway.

    insecurity is a terrible thing.
