Participanti happen to like the shot and wanted to use it but remain legal while i did. this satisfies that.
well my yellow building with row of flags got 4 votes last time and 4 this time. so it’s consistent at least. and i still like it best of the three i entered.
lots of good shots once again. as noted above, no matter the theme you all come through with great stuff.
Curious
Participantjust a heads up Elsinore or however might wonder, one of my shots for tonight looks remarkably similar to one i used before. however it is the first of two shots/frames of that subject and cropped for effect.
i know our auto spotter goes on name/tag/title and that’s different too but someone might remember it from the last flag contest despite its poor showing then.

Participantjustkat you might want to check this out
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1447
it was submitted of approval of FF 3.5 but so far that hasn’t happened. until it’s approved i’m not going to 3.5 since i use the heck out of it.

Participantand if you do put a link PLEASE make it open in a new window/tab.
ever since I got in the habit of clicking links with the scroll wheel, my life has become much more serene.
darned nice trick, thanks

Participantif I’m that curious, i can look it up.
well i am that Curious and all the looking in the world isn’t helping me for this one. i’ve been here pretty much from the beginning and what i’m finding is lots of b sides but no “wow that would have been great” ones.
so yes, what linguine said^
i do hope that folks will identify what the original contest was with or without a link.
and if you do put a link PLEASE make it open in a new window/tab.

Participantwant to give a big shout out to schnee for the FSM. without it this contest would be much more difficult.

Participantand just BTW my three for this week are a lot different that the ones i used last time. last time mine weren’t really all that minimalist but more an isolated subject. two of tonight’s are pretty minimalist and the third is still better than those from last time. well IMHO.
Curious
Participantwell i have my three and fully agree with soosh about posting those shots that work for you. lord knows that from week to week entries are all over the map. unless the theme is “go outside and shot a picture” there is going to be a lot of interpretations. and even with my hypothetical theme someone is going to take their picture through the window 🙂

ParticipantI’m trying to get a holga-esque look on an image. Something like the image below, and I would prefer to do it non-destructively in PS CS4.
i (almost) always make a copy of what i’m going to photoshop and use a separate folder for those photos. this avoids the accidental “save changes” click yes problem.
also when saving your work a new title helps insure that the original remains intact. if the image you posted is “downtown002” simply getting rid of the 002 part means you now have two images. and again when you close the photo or photoshop and get the save changes dialog box selecting “no” keeps your original — well original.
you will have to clean originals from your working folder probably but that’s better than losing one.
and if that wasn’t what you meant, sorry.

Participantthanks Elsinore. i couldn’t get that trick to work like i wanted and used another picture instead. tonight’s “rose” entry was were it might have made a difference by concentrating the popping factor in the center. i’m happy with how it turned out anyway.
it will be interesting to see what other have done. i uploaded 4 and haven’t made the final cull yet.
Curious
Participantwell i just did one and it looked a lot better in my head.
may not have time for this but is it within the rules to use opacity as you move toward the outer edges? in other words i want the center to really pop and the object border less so. the complete object will still pop from the background.
Curious
Participanti found three that qualify and am going to also provide popping links just as added info.
i have a pretty good visual memory of photos i’ve taken and it’s real annoying when i can’t find the actual photo. or maybe my memory isn’t as good as i think 🙂

ParticipantI was logged out. I had not logged out,
ever since i joined i get auto logged out if i remain inactive for more than a few minutes. and that inactivity can be no more than composing a comment. you would think that (cat like) typing would count as activity but for me … no. unless i’m actively moving from page to page …… bye bye
and so far as i know i didn’t get the questionable cookie.
Curious
Participantwhatever you do to resize the image ALWAYS do it to a copy.
yeah you all know that but even i (who almost always makes a copy to edit) will sometimes get in a hurry. with photoshop when you do the resize “save” function it will allow you to make a new file name. doing that in conjunction with working from a copy will make it fairly safe that you don’t change your original.
also don’t use “save as” use the “save for web” which has a built in resize option. do the resize first at 640 with the box checked that says constrain proportions. then the quality part. it should show you the kb for each setting. while 200kb is fark’s upper limit below 100 is better for load times and usually won’t make much difference in your vote totals. this is after all a 640 pixel wide photo on fark not an entry in a fine arts show.

ParticipantI tried putting some flames in front of the lens to make it look like I was running from a fire and it looked like crap.
now your facebook comment makes more sense 🙂
