ParticipantCheck UFRaw, I used it before I, uh, acquired CS2 and Lightroom.
Forums being glitchy, here is the link

ParticipantSilverStag if you get a chance could you rule on the “best friends as family” gray area? 2 of my 3 shots for next week aren’t blood relatives and I have lots and lots to go through if I have to use David.
I need a call on that too. I simply don’t have a single shot of my family that I took, if this were in June, different story. I would hate to use my cats in all three shots 🙂

ParticipantI am squarely in the “oh HELL no” camp. I already get paranoid when I miss the top ten by a single vote and start thinking, “man, %)(*#$& must have created a dummy account and voted twice for him/herself”. Prizes would give my psychotic ramblings some credibility, and that’s never a good thing.
Kestrana‘s recognition idea would be pretty cool, though!
THIS
to both parts. but mostly the latter.
I get all tingly seeing my pic on the Farktography scroll through, I would pee my pants to be on the Fark mainpage.

ParticipantIt’s a streetlight. 🙂

ParticipantPuddytats was a Caturday Cross-Over, there was a Farktography/Photoshop Cross-Over in 2009 (Here: http://fpca.misfitsquirrels.com/showcontest.php?contestid=4469116 ).

ParticipantI like the 4th Element option, but I think it should be optional. A big ole caveat in the thread description saying 4th Photo Optional This Week Only or something along those lines.

ParticipantWe might want to add some info about the shadows and play of shadows/light to the theme description to help clarify what you’re going for with it.
This will need some roughing out from the crowd, but something along the lines of:
“Photos with strong light and shadows, think film noir and chiaroscuro. Black and white is not mandatory”.
It’s my first theme so I may not be describing it well. I know that a lot of people are going to chiaroscuro and think “What the hell?” but that is really what I am thinking about here.

ParticipantI think the emphasis is supposed to be on the play of light and shadow across the subject. In that photo, the subject is pretty well lit even if the background isn’t. But I’m still wrapping my mind around this one, so I could be wrong.
Yeah, for this contest I’m taking it as the absence of light that’s supposed to be the most striking feature.
Exactly! The composition should be about the shadows, not the light. If that makes any sense.

ParticipantThese are the kinds of things I was thinking about:

This is NOT a black and white contest, though obviously B&W works extremely well. Basically, it is open to your imagination, but stuff like this is Right Out:

ParticipantMy only advice to the new moderators is rule through terror. Good luck, hire reliable henchmen.

ParticipantDamnit, I so read the theme as nothing man-made! Do you know how many tree branches and flower stems I searched through looking for letter all because I have poor reading comprehension! 🙂

ParticipantNope, straight jpeg from the xray software. Sweeeeeeeeettttt.

ParticipantSo, Orionid came up with an awesome idea for this week involving xrays. U-Man couldn’t because of some crazy rules about not using valuable hospital equipment for things like Fark thread (geesh!). I, on the other hand am the radiology tech at my animal hospital, so my rules are rather more…flexible. (Hey, I get exposed to xrays dozens of times a week, what is one more time, right? And, I can read at night without a flashlight!) So my question is: is a digital xray a photograph? Can it be used in the theme? The technology is almost identical to a digital camera (to be honest if this were film I wouldn’t even ask, but I would also not do it because the film ain’t cheap, digital is 1 and 0’s) except that the light I am painting with xray radiation.
Thoughts?

ParticipantAs hard a time as I had coming up with entries for this thread, I cannot imagine banning a letter as to “easy”!

ParticipantTo be honest, I’ve been thinking I need a couple of kids to photograph after seeing the wonderful work U-Man does. But then, I’m like, well, is the expense of feeding the little buggers really work the votes in the theme…I dunno…
On a more serious note, I’ve always been impressed by how “not forced” your kids are U-Man, they always have a look of genuine joy to being doing stuff with you. That transcends any vote totals in the Universe 🙂
