ParticipantYugoboy’s Artist, U-man’s Dad & Daughter, and Kestrana’s Sunset Viewer are my favorites and far, far superior photos…
Thanx mucho!
When I approached her asking if I could take a picture, she thought I meant of her work. She was much less reluctant when it finally sank in I meant her! Her look is one of bemusement for that reason. 😀

ParticipantWell, for the moment, I know the theater tech people want/need some shots for student portfolios, so I’m shooting the building of the set next week.
As for shooting rehearsals and “stuff” I think we’ll be playing it by ear as I get the feeling they may not know exactly what they want right away as it’s been a while since they’ve had a dedicated photographer. I’ll definitely take your advice into account and once I get my sea legs begin to get gently assertive as we figure out what everyone want/needs. I think I’m going to stay off the stage and stay out of the way until they get comfortable with me, and I them. This is new for all of us. The first show’s in a “black box” theater, so getting “on” the stage won’t be as hard as when they do Hairspray on the main stage. (Current show is “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”)

ParticipantThanx. Most likely I’ll be shooting rehearsals (and dress rehearsal) as opposed to actual ticketed audience shots. Also probably going to do some staged/posed shots for promotional/lobby purposes.
At first, I just need to get comfortable with the process, and I also have limited access to lighting not provided by the school/stage/production. Somewhere in my basement I’ve got a couple really HOT lights, but no umbrellas, so they’re more for catalogue-style shots of “stuff” not people. As I do more of this, and as my value to the school and the productions goes up, I may be able to ask for stuff to be available, even if it belongs to the school.

ParticipantYeah, not really sure what to make of the monkey…
LOL! I thought the same thing. The description doesn’t say your subject has to be human.
Yeah, but the “get up close and personal” aspect is missing in a bunch of these (including that one). It appears the voters have noticed, however, so I’m not going to stamp my feet and get pissy.

ParticipantIt wasn’t ’til after I re-read the description I realized my Spiderman camera would be good… but a couple months ago I was cleaning my hard drive of programs I never use and got rid of the software required to download from the camera. Now I can’t find the disc.
I may have to use it on the web-cam function if I’m going to participate at all…

ParticipantI actually have an idea, and a general shooting plan, now I need to find time to do it. Also, does anyone have any idea how to go about affixing a round piece of fruit to a cross?
/yes, I am actually serious.
Drill a LOOOOONG screw through the back of the cross and screw the fruit onto the pointy end

ParticipantOK… I’ve volunteered to begin shooting productions at my school. (Amazing… it’s a school of the arts, but photography isn’t represented!)
Any suggestions for ISO, shutter speed, lighting, etc?
Yugoboy
ParticipantYay!
I’ve got my shots (have had for a while, now.)
Here’s hoping the voters reward some out of the box thinking for a couple of ’em.

ParticipantHave we officially banned sports venues?
Everything except Notre Dame Stadium. ‘Cuz, ya know, Touchdown Jesus.
Unless there’s a chapel, I’m going with “Yes, banned.” Even Mile-High Stadium, Tebow notwithstanding.

Participant2 and 5 are sort of in-line with what I was thinking – moreso 2
Good. Looks like I got it right.
I dumped a whole bunch in my flickr stream last weekend, and I’m pretty sure every one of them would satisfy you Farktographer.
As for the difficulty of this factor, there is definitely a psychological wall, and for relative introverts like many of us, that wall’s never going to go away, but like ennuipoet I’ve found some reward in punching little holes in that wall. It does become easier over time. Not always a lot easier… but easier.
I like what I’ve got this week, and I’m definitely looking forward to trying this again in 18-24 months.
(Still gonna get outgunned by many of you, but that’s not the point…)Yugoboy
ParticipantI feel like ennuipoet on this one. Unless I can come up with some brilliant ideas (or even mediocre ones) that I can execute, I’m out.
This contest does not play to my strengths (even less that “Strange”).

ParticipantReading these comments I am oh so glad I have been shooting for this one almost since it was hoppered.
While two of my final 3 are from Italy, I’ve got a bunch from town.
Suggestions that it’s far too late to use (maybe next time):
Art and Craft Fairs – approach vendors or booth personnel
Buskers (Street Musicians) – drop a buck in the can and you can go to townDoing this over the summer kept me from just approaching random strangers on Main Street or at a public park – options I have near zero comfort with. While I’m near certain to not do well (again) at least my stress about this contest is low. I’ve got a few B’s for once.

ParticipantYou know who else banned Jesus? Pontius Pilate, for trolling, calling out forum members and heckling the moderators.
I heard it was because he was an unrepentant hippie freak with weird friends.
All that “love your neighbor” shit… sheesh!

ParticipantI still get all blustery and pissy when the people in my favorite TV shows are all “I’ll enhance it… oh look! you can identify the perp through a reflection in the chrome of this car on a parking lot security camera with resolution worse than an old Disc camera.” I mean…. I love li’l Abby Schutto, but dayum…
Now, if they had this camera, I might be more inclined… but what corner bodega’s gonna shell out the bux?
😉

ParticipantMy wife and I like to go antiquing. It’s always great when we go somewhere and the prices are what we’d like them to be. You know we’ll never be back to the place when we say to each other “They price it like they know what they have.” We’ve got a bunch of old old old cameras on shelved in the living room with B&W shots I took of barns in frames near them. I guaran-damn-tee we don’t have anything like what you’ve described, but we like our little collection of Brownies.
BTW – if you ever get Rochester way, I’ll get you to the George Eastman house. They’ve got this one room with a camera collection that would have orionid turgid for days. (By “you” I mean any of you regulars… just PM me.)
