ParticipantOK… so a Neutral Density is now on the list.
I’ve got the light and dark sepias, a graduated blue, a yellow, a polarized, fog, 4 point star and a couple others, and I know there’s a ton of ’em out there…. narrowing down the wish list is daunting… especially (as mentioned earlier) with Photoshop/Irfanview/etc being available to supplement.

ParticipantBonus: they used one of my photos! First photo credit, sweet!
Now you have your “iconic” photo for that thread 😆

Participant(IE, I have an ever-growing set of cokin filters)
What filters do you find most helpful in this age of digital photography?
I’ve got a cokin system also, and I’ve only got about 8-10, some of which I’ve abandoned using due to the magic of Photoshop (Speed filter, for example). I’ve had the filters and rack since my Pentax K1000 (OK… who’s nostalgia meters did I just trigger?).
I’ve found that there’s only a few that I end up using anything like regularly, and others are money ill-spent.Yugoboy
ParticipantI took photography in high school as a vocational program – half a day for 2 years. Darkroom processing is an art that I still miss. Hell, I got all the stuff but the chems (2 enlargers, trays, tongs, dryer, red bulb, etc.), and just have not ginned up the intestinal fortitude to put it all together.
Get off my lawn comment – Kids today (and most adults) will never have that experience… and that’s kinda sad.
As for the matting experience, I never tried to make a matted window. I just glued (heat activated glue paper) my photos on the matting boards. We had a board cutter for that purpose, which is why I probably still have 8 fingers and 2 thumbs. Only the most adventurous tried to cut windows (if we screwed up, we had to pay for the boards). For now I use what I guess we can call the Farktographer method of reverse engineering previous mats. Well… that and old window frames. My wife strips ’em and stains ’em, and I fill the panes with images. Works good and the price is right.

ParticipantDid anyone else notice they bumped the limit on filesize to 256K?
No… I hadn’t noticed…
This is relevant to my interests…
Will it be permanent, or, if I take advantage of it, will it go *poof* later and I’ll have a bunch of red x’s?

ParticipantI like the idea. Personally, I’d like to pick my own photos, but I’d be open to other picking for me too.
I think we should either pick our own or allow people to pick for us, but it should be our choice.
Alternatively, we could allow others to choose from a range of photos we lay out (as has already been tried in this thread). While I have a couple that have scored 4th-6th that I am proud of, a couple others that have tanked are more “iconically” me.

ParticipantI’ll post my “B” for this week in-line to help with the boredom…

ParticipantInteresting. I reduce my pix down to between 800-1000px if possible and file size to 100-120kb. Upload to Flickr and use the 640 size. It doesn’t seem to be overly cruel to the clarity of the pix in question. (And if Flickr does some added sharpening, that would explain some of that.)

ParticipantI’d spring for the ennuipoet plan if this becomes a reality.
As for where to put it… we could/should utilize one of the sub-forums here and make it a Sticky for anyone who wants to contribute. Once we reach X-number of contributions we could submit it as a mainpage link to Fark. There’s at least one Fark Mod ’round these parts, I think who could ensure a green light.
Not only would it be a neat project, it could help drive a little more traffic here… not everyone who contributes on Wednesdays/Thursdays frequents this place (I think)… hell… I don’t think they infrequent it, either!

ParticipantWelcome!
Looking for more from you! Nice pics in your bucket, already.

ParticipantWow… a veritable butt-load of images this week!
Many many awesome shots.
Has anyone done the research to see what kinds of contests draw the most people? In the back of my head, I kind of thought this theme was inviting a large turnout. Apparently the non-thinking part of my brain knows people better than the thinking part does.

ParticipantI’ve got a few film 35mms at home. The problem is I’ve got about 8 rolls of exposed and undeveloped film already from old vacations, and I’m not ready to add to that collection. I found a 4-pack of still-in-the-box Kodak 400 that needs to get shot, but I’ll wait for the other rolls first. That, and the batteries are beastly in price.
Got a Nikon F3, a beautiful new-ish Minolta I barely used, and something else I got for free that may or may not leak light. This discussion is making me re-think the decision to make them more decoration than tool.Yugoboy
ParticipantHas anyone else come to the realization that they probably lean a bit much on post-processing?
I only went with one of the 3 I originally wanted because the others needed “something.” Finally came up with 4. Took far too long, and was way too much work, but I got my 3 and a B: My BYugoboy
ParticipantI truly believe that if someone downloads something for free, it’s the person who wasn’t planning on buying that thing in the first place. Most of the people downloading something like photoshop aren’t the ones avoiding the cost to their business, it’s the individuals that wouldn’t pay the $699.00 price tag in the first place. You can’t point at 10 people who have downloaded it and claim, “that’s $6,990 that I lost!” when it’s money that never would have worked its way to Adobe’s pockets in the first place.
Hey! I resemble that remark!
(Elements came free with my Wacom, and GIMP’s always free. Once the Warp tool works its way into Elements or some other less expensive alternative, I may return to the land of sunshine)

ParticipantOn-line piracy of music and movies is for those too lazy to go to the library and do it for themselves.
On-line piracy of software is another story.
