ParticipantAm I being a dork and missing where the upcoming contests are listed? I only see ‘Autumn’ next week and ‘The Song’ on 12/1.

ParticipantOMG Kestrana, those colors in your flower shot are gorgeous! I’ve never seen one like it, do you know what kind of flower that is?

ParticipantDidn’t you have the tinfoil on before posting? Tell me you did.
/oh shiat.//daylight savings time.
Hey, does kashari come here? I dig the lighting in the ballet pics (that first one is really good) and I wonder how much was done with Photoshop B&W tool. Or was flash used? Or both? It’s a nice series.
Hi U-man, thanks for the compliment! That actually was just beautiful stage lighting in a dark theater during rehearsals and no flash was allowed. My poor old D60, even with a rented 28-300 3.5(?) lens couldn’t get any more light no matter how much I cursed it, so it’s a good thing they had on white dresses/light clothing! I had such a slow shutter speed most of the time that I’ll have a few nice ones for the Blur or Artistic themes too. 😆
I use Capture NX2 for my RAW conversions and these were developed as Monochrome, then I did a little bit of Curves & Contrast corrections.

ParticipantOMG, that’s crazy!! Sorry, caradoc, but I’ll keep you in mind if anyone needs a lefty putter!

ParticipantT-minus six hours for delivery of the Pallet of Crap. Yay.
Lucky duck! Can’t wait to hear what you get!

ParticipantYeah, it was riotous. Unfortunately, I was under time pressure, and jumped out of my truck (air-conditioned to within an inch of subzero) out into a hundred degrees and a thousand percent humidity, and spend more time wiping condensation from glass than actually shooting. It was nuts, and most of my files from that morning have focus or haze artifacts from that.
(yes, I overstate the temperature/humidity thing. It was about maybe 85, and had been raining, and was misty, and my lens had been right in front of an A/C vent for 2 hours. Some days, you just shoot yourself in the foot.)
Living in AZ my entire life, I’ve never seen anything like that, the lavender that pops out is amazing. So thanks for going nuts and sharing it with us! 😀

ParticipantI found this one too late for the contest:

Weird Roots by pjern, on FlickrSilverstag, the colors in these pictures are amazing! What a crazy, magical place that is.

ParticipantThanks causeisaidso & olavf! I might be able to get them posted myself if my mobile hotspot thing works with my phone. If not, I’ll just have to get them in late.
Do you have a Pre Plus? That one works pretty well
-bought a new laptop (’cause the screen on my old one sucked ass and the thing was starting to go anyhow) and wanted to see what my pics looked like on the demo unit. Fry’s doesn’t have wireless available in their store – not even for the sales guys. So he got to stand there while I made my own 😀
/surprisingly quick. Even the sales weasel was impressedHa, that’s pretty cool! I have an HTC Incredible on Verizon, but it seems like it should be fairly easy to do. Now that I’m saying this, I realize I forgot to actually test the dang connection after setting up the phone part and I leave early in the morning, but I think it will be ok.

ParticipantCongrats Orionid & Kestrana and I love your ideas for the photography at your wedding!
As for the contest this week, I won’t be around on Wednesday to do my submissions. How do I go about having someone send them in for me, if possible?
kashari
ParticipantIs it just me, or does anyone else see this?
We had not one but 2 deliciously vibrant rainbows today, but for my money, I like this shot the best.
That’s an AWESOME shot, Rav, congrats!
kashari
ParticipantThanks for the empathy all and my sympathies for your accidents too. That story about Soosh’s lens is crazy!
I’ve now decided to look into getting a Personal Articles insurance policy. I can’t remember if I read about that on here or a Flickr group, it sounds like it might be a good thing.
kashari
ParticipantNo, go ahead and post your new photo in the thread and I’ll remove the gorilla picture.
But just to be clear, this is only my interpretation of the theme description. I can see an argument for a photo of a gorilla even without context since most anyone would have to travel some place to take a photo of a gorilla.
Thanks, but I think I’ll change it and have posted the replacement. I’ll probably be sorry, but oh well. 😀
kashari
ParticipantI think it’s equivalent to Mopsy’s granddaughters on the Sears Tower Skydeck. There’s some context to it, but if you would rather enter something else instead, I can pull it.
Elsinore, after reading the clarification, I think I’d like to change my Gorilla picture since there isn’t much context as to where it is.(?) How do I do that, just post the new link here or what?
kashari
ParticipantOk thanks all, I may do a combo of scenic and character. I’m going to go check the hopper first though, I usually forget to do that.
