ParticipantYeah, generally something that’s showing the effect of, particularly an intangible like air, is okay.
We’ve allowed the effects of rain (raindrops on the ground, or a windowpane) to show rain in the past, for example.

ParticipantI felt okay (not great, just okay) with my shots this week. Then I submitted, and looked at everyone’s submissions – WOW, I got totally blown out of the water. Really great photos this week, everyone! I have a feeling it’s going to be another vote-heavy week.
Last time I checked there was a 17-way tie for first lol.

ParticipantPlama – dueling 395s? 😀

ParticipantThere have been some pretty heavy changes to the contents of the BB database the past few days (read: lots of post edits/new posts/deleted posts, etc) that may have something to do with it too.

ParticipantI’m going to have to come up with something different than the low key stuff I’ve been doing lately…or maybe not 😉

ParticipantYeah, the whole road is just all kinds of awesome. If we do it again, we’re going to have to plan on four days, at least. Maybe even make a week of it. We just didn’t have enough time in any given area to appreciate it as much as we wanted to.
I’ll have to look back through my Friday morning pics – we stayed overnight in Mammoth and Morrison is just south of there, and it was on my side of the car…so I probably do. I’m too tired to try and match mountains tonight, and I’m *supposed* to be either finishing my taxes, or deciding what I’m going to enter into the State Fair tonight =P

Participantcount the .5’s for emphasis only? Or, at least, the .5’s over one? So +1.5 would mean +1 a lot but it could still be scheduled if enough people were “sort of want”

ParticipantDamnit, I so read the theme as nothing man-made! Do you know how many tree branches and flower stems I searched through looking for letter all because I have poor reading comprehension! 🙂
Been there, done that. =P

ParticipantYou missed your ‘automatic win’ with that firework ‘V’, soosh 😉
/great bees!olavf
ParticipantI don’t see why not, so long as you’re not using additional software to post-process and add false color or something along those lines.

ParticipantZero– sadly a ND filter is still on my ‘need to get list’. The sky out there is just so blue. I white-balance corrected for ‘daylight’ and tweaked the curves ever so slightly to bring it out a hair more, but that’s basically it.
Glad you guys love the shack. That was one many examples of why non-photographers would hate to ride along with us – It was sitting alongside the road (close to that abandoned ranch in the gallery) so I made Kat stop the car so we could run around and take pics of both. Unfortunately, even though we were in the middle of nowhere, the shack and the ranch were both marked as private property, and there was another place across the street that looked like it was still occupied, so we couldn’t investigate further.
Kestrana, that’s CA-190 through the Panamint Valley (the short way). It’s basically one valley over from Death Valley. If you google ‘Panamint Springs’ it’ll be fairly apparent what the extent of the shot is.
/and yeah, I’m thinking about that one for ‘Desolation’ – I’ve got others for the ‘abandoned’ one 😀
//and I think I’m set for ‘Mountains’ lol.olavf
Participantorionid, if it’s any consolation, I didn’t really get any shots in Vegas. You and Kes got some phenomenal shots there, so I’m kinda jealous of that 🙂
chupathingie, thanks. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect, and I’d forgotten what the sky looks like away from the cities =P

ParticipantI can’t speak for U-Man, but our kids are nearly always up for being involved in a project. Sometimes, the sillier the better. Up to, and including standing in the yard while their mom pretends to hit them with a dead fish. We explain the concept to them and kinda let them run with the idea some where appropriate too, which gives them more ownership and involvement (rather than just standing there trying not to look bored)
Main things I’ve found about photographing kids, Rav – Patience is a virtue. It’ll take them a while to settle down, if you’re trying to get something posed. And then, you’ll have a limited window of opportunity before they get bored and you can’t keep their attention any more. You’ll learn the signs of when it’s a “good time to take a break” and maybe try again later. Being slightly goofy yourself, and making the experience fun will generally extend this window somewhat, and make them more willing to do it again.

ParticipantIt’s the Fark 3.0 mascot – Older, fatter… still has enormous cajones, but it’s also bringing it’s own flask in case the booze runs out.
